If you have problems with your PC locking or going to sleep, caffeine will keep it awake. It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you’re still working at the keyboard, so won’t lock the screen or activate the screensaver.
The icon is shown above – it’s the leftmost one in the task tray, and this is all you see. Double-clicking the icon empties the coffee pot (that’s what the icon is) and temporarily disables the program. Double-clicking it again refills the pot, and will keep your machine awake and helps you disable screensaver while watching movies or videos.

Simply run the MouseJiggle.exe included in the release .zip file. Check the "Enable jiggle?" checkbox to start jiggling the mouse pointer; uncheck it to stop. The jiggle is slight enough that you should be able to use the computer normally even with jiggling enabled.

Stop Windows Blue Screen Error Caused by Device Drivers

When Windows detects a problem from which it cannot recover, it displays Stop messages. These are text-mode error messages that report information about the condition. Stop messages, sometimes referred to as blue screen of death (BSoD), contain specific information that can help you diagnose and stop blue screen error caused by a device or driver.

BlueScreenView (Link) scans all files created during your minidump "blue screen of death" crashes, and displays information about all accidents at a table. If you encounter a Stop 0xA message, the problem might be due to an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup.

Stop 0x0000001E or KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The problem might be due to a memory leak caused by an application or service that is not releasing memory correctly.

Stop 0×00000024 or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
If you are not using the NTFS file system, and the system partition is formatted with the file allocation table (FAT16 or FAT32) file system there are write errors while pagin due the limit on FAT32. You can also resolve this situation by adding more RAM

Stop 0x0000002E or DATA_BUS_ERROR

Trobleshoot Hardware. Sometimes people will receive a Blue Screen of Death after adding new hardware to their system. To prevent this from happening, make sure you install the drivers from the hardware manufacturer’s website. Drivers will not only help the computer detect what you have installed, it will also stop blue screen error caused by a device or driver.
Safe Mode Testing. When you enter the Safe Mode screen, you have the options to start it without networking or to start it normally. If you think it is a internet problem, trying booting with Safe Mode with networking off.
Update Windows. Try to update windows for the fixes for the problems. One would suggest waiting for the operating system to become more stable with new Service Packs that come with updates and “Fixes” for drivers.
Google It : Write down the STOP number near the bottom of the screen and search it by using Google to help you solve the situation. This is yet another way to help you solve the issue if everything else fails.

2. Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup, Recover Files from PC, Laptop

Since we can’t backup without windows, we will be creating a temporary boot disc that allows us to access our files without booting into windows.

• Access another PC, download the free Ubuntu OS (Link) (which is the best linux distro). You can also order free ubuntu cd delivered at your home free for future use.
• Once you download the Ubuntu CD ISO file, you can launch a CD DVD burning software. Put your blank disc into your burner, and click ‘Write Image File to Disc’. Click on the folder to browse for a file, and find the Ubuntu ISO file you downloaded.
• Now that you have the boot cd, just stick it in the optical drive of your PC and restart to boot from it. You should see an option to Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer. (see below)
• Once the operating system has loaded, choose Places > Computer from the menu.
• Now, you can access the windows folders there. Simply backup you files using a usb drive. In most cases people have partitions in their windows hard drive. So basically you can also copy your Documents folder and other useful folders from the C: drive to any other drive in the partition. Because, while re-installing windows only C: drive is formatted.

This method of getting a backup without windows is the best according to me. But, if there are any error saying "Unable to mount the volume" you can refer this article for detailed guide of this boot backup method.

3. Build A Custom Windows Recovery Disk!

Laptop Lid Settings to Close Laptop Without StandBy, Sleep Mode

When I first got my laptop, I was quite annoyed with the feature that that laptop went to standby mode when the lid was closed. What I actually wanted was to close laptop without standby. This is be done easily from windows power options which allows us to change laptop lid settings when closed.
Fix : Laptop Touchpad Too Sensitive to Tap Clicks

Close Laptop Lid without Standby, Hibernate

1. In Windows Seven : Go to Windows Search and type in "power options". 
2. Click on Change what closing the lid does (as shown below)
    
3. You can also follow the path as shown below…
   
4. Now in the System Settings Page Below.
   
5. Select the Action you want… I use the Do Nothing option… So that it turns of the display when I close the Lid without Stand By or making it go to sleep mode.
6. Click OK.

• In Windows XP : The System Settings Page can be found at Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options > Advanced (Tab)

So, now you can close your laptop display lid without worrying about the laptop going into stand by or hibernate mode.

Cara Konfigurasi SAMBA di Linux Ubuntu

Saat baru mencoba dan “ketagihan” untuk terus mencoba, membuat saya sadar bahwa seharusnya hasil “percobaan” saya tersebut selayaknya dibuatkan dokumentasi. Itulah yang terjadi ketika saya menginstal Linux pada komputer kerja saya. Open Suse adalah distro pertama yang saya install, tapi dalam perjalanannya, saya merasakan banyak kesulitan dalam melakukan konfigurasi. Maklumlah, namanya juga baru kenal dan baru belajar, inginnya sih langsung belajar konfigurasi dari konsole linux, tidak menggunakan aplikasi GUI-nya. Tapi ternyata kebanyakan mentok-nya, so…, beralihlah ke distro “sejuta umat” yaitu Ubuntu. Alhamdulillah, di distro ini saya merasa agak lebih mudah untuk melakukan konfigurasi sesuai keinginan saya, yaitu di konsole.

Setting ini mungkin sudah sangat mudah bagi pengguna Linux yang sudah lama menggunakan OS tersebut. Tapi kembali kepada maksud awal saya, mendokumentasikan hal-hal yang baru saya pelajari, untuk itulah tulisan ini tertuang.

Setting Samba pada Ubuntu

Waktu saya menginstal, Ubuntu saya belum ada Samba-nya. Gimana cara saya tahu? waktu saya kasih perintah:

# etc/init.d/samba start

Service tersebut tidak bisa jalan, yo wis, akhirnya saya coba install langsung dari terminal.

# apt-get install samba

Eh, ternyata ngga bisa juga, akhirnya saya sadar kalau Ubuntu saya belum di-update.

# apt-get update

Oh iya, dua perintah terakhir dapat dijalankan jika koneksi internet tersambung, kalau ngga? ya ngga bisa.

Selanjutnya saya ulang perintah:

# apt-get install samba

Berhasil. Selanjutnya saya ingin men-sharing sebuah folder, folder yang ingin saya sharing adalah /home/documents/. Saya jalankan nautilus dari terminal.

# nautilus

Saya menuju ke /home/documents/ , klik kanan dan pilih share options, langsung saya OK.
Lalu tugas saya selanjutnya adalah menambahkan samba user pada system

# useradd namauser

# smbpasswd -a namauser

Kemudian membuat file konfigurasi yang akan digunakan untuk menampung samba user

# pico /etc/samba/smbusers

sisipkan baris dibawah ini :

system_username = “namauser”

simpan dan keluar dari editan

Script dibawah ini untuk membuat folder sharing kita bila diakses pada komputer lain akan meminta diisikan pssword. Cari baris:

; security = user

ganti dengan:

security = user

username map = /etc/samba/smbusers

simpan dan keluar

Untuk security level = share (tidak membutuhkan password dalam mengakses samba): pastikan ada script ini:

security = share
domain master=yes
domain logons=yes
encrypt password=yes
security = share

Untuk mengetes apakah konfigurasinya telah berhasil, ketikkan perintah:

# testparm

kemudian restart sambanya

# /etc/init.d/samba restart

Mensharing folder home dengan opsi read and write

edit file smb.conf

cari baris

# By default, the home directories are exported read-only. Change next

# parameter to ‘yes’ if you want to be able to write to them.

writable = no

…

ganti dengan

…

# By default, the home directories are exported read-only. Change next

# parameter to ‘yes’ if you want to be able to write to them.

writable = yes

…

restart samba-nya

Untuk mengakses linux komputer linux saya dari komputer windows, pada start menuà run, saya ketikkan //ip_address, sama seperti mengakses komputer windows lainnya.

Dari sesama linux, cukup ketikkan: smb:///ip_address pada nautilus-nya ubuntu.

Membuat Screenshot Video DVD

Graphics Card. Screenshot berguna jika anda mempunyai moment tersendiri dengan video yang sedang anda putar. Video tersebut mungkin video ulang tahun, pernikahan anda atau video lain yang kebetulan moment-moment indah yang tidak meninggalkan kenangan berupa foto-foto anda, atau malah raib entah kemana. Dengan membuat screenshot tersebut, anda bisa mengabadikan kenangan menjadi sebuah gambar atau foto yang bisa anda tampilkan pada desktop atau disimpan di folder foto pribadi anda. Nah, bagaimana cara mengambil screenshot dari video yang sedang ditampilkan? Software pemutar film akan menyesuaikan dengan graphics card (bekerja pada Overlay Mode) yang lama.

Kalkulasi yang terakhir dilakukan langsung oleh graphics chip, dan dikirim ke layar tanpa melalui Frame-Buffer. Jadi saat menyimpan gambar ke dalam clipboard (dengan cara menekan tombol [Print Screen]), processor menyimpan isi clipboard, sehingga yang ditangkap hanyalah gambar kosong (berlatar hitam) saja. Untuk menangkap gambar dari tayangan film, anda bisa memakai aplikasi pihak ketiga atau aplikasi lain yang bisa anda unduh di Internet. Disini anda bisa memakai aplikasi software khusus seperti Hypersnap. Namun, software multimedia player seperti Windows Media Player 10, sudah mengunakan Video Mixing Renderer” (VMR) yang merupakan komponen DirectShow untuk memperbaiki tampilan data video. Komponen ini akan menyimpan gambar ke dalam Frame-Buffer sehingga processor pun dapat mengambil gambar tersebut. Konfigurasinya dapat diubah dalam menu software DVD Player yang digunakan. Pada Windows Media Player adalah “Video Acceleration Settings” yang bisa dijangkau melalui menu “Tools > Options > Peformance”, kemudian, nonaktifkan pilihan “Use Overlays” dan aktifkan option “Use Quality Mode”.

Anda tekan Apply lalu OK. Sekarang coba anda screenshot kembali dari video atau film yang anda putar pada Windows Media Player.

Mengembalikan Properties My Computer yang hilang

Informasi yang anda cari tentang seputar komputer anda. Biasanya anda cari melalui My Computer dengan membuka Properties yang terdapat di dalamnya. Informasi tentang PC dapat anda diketahui dengan jelas. Namun, bagaimana jika Properties yang terdapat dalam My Computer yang anda klik kanan pada desktop tersebut hilang?

Hilangnya Properties dari My Computer akibat kesalahan-kesalahan dalam mengoperasikan PC. Sebenarnya hal tersebut masih bisa anda akses melalui Control Panel, walaupun prosesnya menjadi sedikit lebih panjang.

Apabila anda tidak ingi repot mengunakan Control Panel, sebaiknya perbaiki Properties My Computer tadi. Caranya adalah dengan mengubah susunan registtry sistem. Anda buka Regedit dari dalam menu Start > Run lalu anda ketik pada jendela Run regedit. Jika berjalan sukses anda akan ditampilkan jendela Registry Editor Windows tersebut.

Anda masuk ke dalam key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Anda buat sebuah entry baru dengan cara mengklik kanan jendela kanan dan pilih “DWORD Value”. Anda beri nama “NoPropertiesMyComputer” tanpa tanda kutik, tiap awal kata huruf besar dan tanpa ada spasi. Setelah anda buat nama tersebut lalu anda klik dua kali dan berikan nilai “0” di bagian “Value Data” lalu klik “OK”. Tutup Registry Editor anda. Restart PC, dan temukan kembali “Properties” yang hilang saat kembali ke dalam sistem.
